This skilled nursing facility in Cotulla, Texas, highlights Rheinlander Architects' expertise in designing efficient and cost-effective healthcare environments for rural communities. Our design focuses on maximizing operational efficiency while providing a warm, resident-centered atmosphere.
We developed an innovative modified "X" shaped design with a central nurse station, optimizing staff efficiency in this 60-bed facility. The memory care household, comprising 14 beds, features dining, activity, and living areas that open onto a covered patio overlooking a secure courtyard. To address the varying South Texas climate, we created two courtyards opening in opposite directions, providing different degrees of shelter. A living room with a stone fireplace offers a cozy environment for intimate family visits. We incorporated multiple communal spaces, including two sitting rooms flanking the nurse station, a large activity room, and a TV room, to enhance resident engagement. The dining room opens onto a patio overlooking an additional courtyard, further connecting residents with the outdoors. Our design also includes all necessary peripheral support areas, ensuring a fully functional facility in this remote location.
Judge Joel Rodriguez praised our construction administration efforts, noting that we saved the county hundreds of thousands of dollars, demonstrating our commitment to both design excellence and fiscal responsibility.
